Toddler Smoothie – Carob & Banana

(Makes enough for 2 little loves)

This healthy smoothie is a creamy sweet treat for toddlers and parents alike! Similar to cocoa in colour and flavour, yet your little loves will likely be none-the-wiser that carob is actually used in its place. Cocoa can be over-stimulating for toddlers due to its caffeine content, whereas carob is naturally caffeine-free. It also provides B vitamins which help with natural energy production for those on-the-go explorers in your house. The almond butter and milk provide healthy fats and protein for sustained energy release.

This smoothie is dairy-free, vegan and gluten-free, to appeal to those who are restricted due to intolerances or specific dietary preferences. Please note, it does contain nuts so is not suitable for anyone with nut allergies. To be nut-free, you can use yoghurt in place of almond butter and any other milk of choice in place of almond milk

Ingredients:

1 and a half large frozen bananas

1 cup of unsweetened almond milk

1 tablespoon of carob powder

2 x medjool dates, pitted

1 tablespoon of almond butter

Directions:

Place all ingredients into a high-speed blender and blend until smooth.

Tip: You can often pick up big bunches of very ripe bananas at a very reasonable price from your local green grocer. Peel them, cut them in half widthways and freeze them in bulk snap lock bags. You can then use them individually for smoothies… It makes them extra creamy and delicious! A high-speed blender (such as a Vitamix) is best for this recipe, but if you don’t have one, no problem! Just add a little milk of your choice to help blend to your desired texture.
