Ginger and Banana Pregnancy Smoothie

Pregnancy is undoubtedly incredibly demanding on a woman’s body, but ultimately, it can be a radiantly happy time where energy is in abundance. That’s not to say there may be afew ‘bumps’ in the road… Fatigue, nauseousness and constipation to name a few! This smoothie is designed to help make the journey, well, a little smoother! With a zesty flavour and creamy texture, it’s perfect for those mornings where you just don’t feel like actually eating a thing (but know you really should!). Fresh ginger is the key to this concoction, as it helps to keep nauseousness at bay while also nourishing the digestive system. Manuka honey is included as a natural sweetener, but also for its remarkable anti-bacterial and immune-enhancing qualities… Very important to keep those viruses away as your body needs all of the energy it can to grow that beautiful being inside you! Lastly, I’ve included LSA as it is a fantastic combination to help prevent the dreaded pregnancy constipation.

Ingredients:
1 large frozen banana
¾ cup of thick organic natural yoghurt
½ cup of milk of choice
1 heaped teaspoon of Manuka honey
1 tablespoon of LSA (Linseed, Sunflower & Almond Meal)
½-1 teaspoon of freshly grated ginger
Pumpkin seeds to sprinkle on top (optional)

Directions:
Place all ingredients into a high-speed blender and blend until smooth. Sprinkle with pumpkin seeds, if using.

(Makes enough for 1)

Tip: You can often pick up big bunches of very ripe bananas at a very reasonable price from your local green grocer. Peel them, cut them in half widthways and freeze them in bulk re-sealable bags. You can then use them individually for smoothies… It makes them extra creamy and delicious! A high-speed blender (such as a Vitamix) is best for this recipe, but if you don’t have one, no problem! Feel free to add a little more milk of your choice to help blend to your desired texture.
