Cleaning your yoga mat

Cathy Ellegard admin

Giving your mat a quick spray with a natural cleaner with each use will keep grime and buildup in check. It also pays to give it a deep clean every one to six months – depending on how often your mat is used and how much sweat it sees during practice – to keep it from getting sticky or smelly.

Using DYC white vinegar in the mixture below helps to sanitise and remove any smells.

Ingredients:

Spray bottle

Water

DYC white vinegar (1/2 cup of vinegar per cup of water)

A few drops of essential oil of your choice (optional)

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a spray bottle.
  2. Spray the solution onto a microfiber towel or cloth, some mats should not be sprayed directly, and wipe down the mat.
  3. Allow the mat to dry completely before storing.
