Tips and Hints
There is a definite connection between your home and your health; here are some handy hints to help you keep a healthy home for your family.
Use a dehumidifier to keep your home dry and reduce humidity levels to within 30-50%
Prevent moisture getting into your home by wiping away condensation as soon as it appears and fixing leaks without delay. This will prevent mould growth and will make your home unattractive to unwanted guests like cockroaches; also a dry home keeps house dust mites at bay as they need lots of moisture to thrive.
Declutter your home and prevent accumulation of dust as this is the best way to survive if you have an allergy to house dust mites or have asthma. Also remove dust regularly before it gets the chance to build up.
Asthma sufferers need to use as many physical barriers to the house dust mite as possible, especially in bed; use mattress and pillow covers. Also remove carpets wherever possible.
Use good ventilation and preferably an air circulation system to help prevent build up of moisture or toxic fumes, circulate heat and keep the air in your home warm and clean.
Always use extractors in the kitchen and bathroom and make sure your clothes drier is vented to the outside, to prevent moisture build up in the home.
Use a HEPA filter system vacuum cleaner that will remove everything in household dust, especially small particles that include house dust mites
Practice sensible good hygiene all the time, particularly in your kitchen and bathroom, to prevent the spread of germs. For example, throw out and replace old cloths and sponges, wipe surfaces and disinfect regularly, wash hands before touching food. Don’t forget those “unlikely” places and wipe down door handles, taps, and your TV remote.
