COMMON FLOSSING MISCONCEPTIONS
- I don’t need to floss every day.
Plaque accumulation occurs quite quickly. In fact it only takes 24 to
36 hours for plaque to harden into the more difficult-to-remove tartar.
Flossing every second day therefore isn’t nearly as effective as daily
flossing.
- If I can’t see anything stuck in my teeth, there’s no need to floss.
Flossing is not just about removing food particles from between your
teeth. Its primary function is to remove plaque from between your teeth
and around the gum line (where your toothbrush can’t reach).
- Fossing is just a quick up-down.
Flossing isn’t just an up and down motion. You need to wipe the floss
against the sides of every tooth, base to tip, so that it cleans under
the gum line as well as between the teeth.
