HSV1 INFECTION – THE LIFELONG VIRUS
A cold sore is an acute viral infection of the lips, caused by the Herpes Simplex type 1 virus (HSV1). Studies estimate that around 90% of adults have been infected by the virus.²

Most often exposure occurs during childhood, and once it enters the body it remains with us for life, lying dormant in the nerves. While most of the time it lays quietly and causes no problems, the cold sore virus can be triggered back into action, usually at the most inopportune times!
