For busy women on the go, managing contraception can be a chore. But with a ‘fit and forget’ solution, you can say goodbye to the daily contraception routine.Managing contraception can be a headache, whether it involves remembering pills or managing messy creams, diaphragms, caps and other complicated procedures. There is, however, an easy and reliable way to stay protected without the daily hassle.
'FIT AND FORGET' CONTRACEPTIONMirena is a long-term ‘fit and forget’ contraceptive providing up to five years protection from pregnancy.
Once fitted by your doctor, Mirena releases small amounts of the hormone levonorgestrel (similar to the progesterone your body makes) at a constant rate, meaning daily contraception is taken care of automatically. If you change your mind about having a baby Mirena is 100% reversible.
ADDED BENEFITSAs well as its convenience, Mirena provides protection with a much lower dose of hormones than you’d get from most oral contraceptives.
And for women who suffer from heavy periods and painful menstruation, Mirena can make periods lighter, shorter, and sometimes less painful.
TRANSITION INTO MENOPAUSEMirena is ideal for women experiencing pre-menopausal symptoms, such as night sweats and hot flushes, as it takes care of contraception needs while providing the progestogen component of HRT.
That means if you do seek treatment for menopause symptoms, all you’ll need is a low-dose of oestrogen such as a patch, making the transition into menopause a lot smoother.
ONE SIMPLE DOCTOR'S VISITMirena can be fitted in one simple doctor’s visit at a cost that equates to around $5 a month (as well as normal doctor’s charges).
Because it sits inside the uterus and delivers hormones directly where needed, the incidence of side-effects is very low.
Mirena works by reducing endometrial growth, thickening the cervical mucus and impairing the motility of sperm, making it difficult for sperm to get through to fertilise an egg.
As a result, it offers all the peace of mind of a daily contraceptive without any of the hassle.
If having children isn’t on the short-term horizon, ask your doctor if Mirena might be right for you.
