WINTER MAKES IT WORSE In winter less ultraviolet light hits the scalp, which – in the case of flaky scalp – is not a good thing.
UV light tends to reduce the amount of skin production and therefore reduces the amount of dead skin cells shed from the scalp surface. So less UV light equals more flaking in winter.
Also, the cold increases the thickness of sebum (natural oils found on the scalp) making it harder to lubricate the entire scalp surface, resulting in dryness and itching in some areas. |
