Caring for a family pet can be a rewarding experience, but it is an ongoing responsibility 365 days a year.Your cat or dog relies on you for its care and attention. Sufficient good food and clean water, treating for parasites and preventing disease, and keeping your pet clean and warm will ensure that its affection for you is earned.
NUTRITIONFeed your kitten or puppy with a premium food at least twice a day, and your cat or dog at least daily. Provide plenty of clean water at all times.
FLEAS AND WORMSWorms and fleas can severely affect your pet’s and your family’s health. Cats and dogs should be treated for internal and external parasites regularly.
VACCINATIONYour pet needs to be vaccinated twice as a kitten or puppy, then receive booster vaccinations throughout its life. If your pet becomes exposed to the particular disease vaccinated for, the antibodies produced by the vaccine will quickly destroy the disease-causing agent, thereby safeguarding its health.
DESEXINGAs soon as your kitten or puppy is old enough you should consider having it desexed by a vet. This important operation will prevent unwanted animals.
VETERINARY VISITSIf your kitten or puppy shows any sign of illness (vomiting, diarrhoea, listlessness, loss of appetite), you should seek veterinary advice at once. Older animals should also have regular health checks at vaccination time, and be taken to the vet if they are sick or injured.
GROOMINGLong-haired cats and dogs require regular brushing to remove excess hair and maintain a healthy coat. Dogs should be washed every six to eight weeks using a pet shampoo, as other products may cause irritation to skin, eyes or ears.
Spending time with your pet is the greatest reward for you both.
