Today our lives are full of demands. Demands on time, demands on energy and often unrealistic expectations that not only other people place on us, but those
that we place on ourselves. This can lead to ‘overload’. If we allow ourselves to feel overwhelmed on a frequent basis, breaking point is only a small step away,
and closer still are the ‘blues’, those melancholic mood swings that make the days longer. Here are some handy tips for energising your mind so that your life is full of contentment:
  • Clarify the way forward: Sit down and give some thought to WHY you want to modify your life, and HOW you’re going to start. By having a plan, goal-setting is so much easier and the direction you want to take is more straightforward.
  • Engage in ‘play’ or pleasurable pastimes: When we grow up (as most, but not all, of us do!) we look at children playing with a sense of envy because we have often lost touch with the ability to have fun! Therefore, when planning your way forward, factor into your equation time to ‘play, laugh and enjoy fun pastimes’.
  • Seek out humour: ‘Laughter is the best medicine’, as the much-used adage goes. Even scientific research suggests that laughing produces those hormones that are implicated in longevity, improved perception of life, not to mention improved libido and more enriching interactions with people generally.
  • Nurture your spirituality: Not all of us believe in the ‘supernatural’ but that is not a prerequisite for spirituality. Knowing yourself, awareness of your limits and giving yourself some quality “YOU” time is all it may take to create a mind-space that allows you to experience true PEACE. Being comfortable in your own space, trusting yourself and depending on no one else but you, can be empowering. NO CELL PHONES OR COMPUTERS ALLOWED IN THIS SPACE!
  • Let go of negative emotions: Find ways of buying OUT of emotions like anger, jealousy and envy. This may mean you write in a journal to let go of the pain. Initially, you may feel like distancing yourself from people who make you feel inadequate. This is not an antisocial move, but rather it allows you to gain strength and move back into any situation with renewed confidence and higher self-esteem.
  • Keep learning: Your mind will remain active and positive if you allow yourself to learn and acquire new and unique information and experiences! Upskilling for your job, or for fun can give you a new perspective or interest… furthermore learning in one area can allow you to learn one of life’s most important lessons: learning to love!
